Beginner Bachata

Character of Dance -  Bachata is a form of music and dance that originated in the countryside and rural marginal neighborhoods of the Dominican Republic. Bachata is classified as a Cental American dance and is generally danced between 115 - 160 Beats Per Minute. The character of the dance is achieved through sensual hip and body movements.

Progression - The basic footwork is a series of simple steps that produce a back and forth or sideways motion. Bachata is considered a spot dance, danced in the middle of the floor.

Foot pattern - The 8 count basic pattern of (1 2 3&4   5 6 7&8) is most commonly used. The lead will start with the left foot and chasse to the left using cuban action. On 4th count, touch the R foot beside the L. Repeat the foot pattern with a chasse to the R tapping with L foot. Sycopated rhythms are acceptable such as (1&2 3&4 5&6 7&8).
